Foot reflexology
Reflexology in Lausanne
A treatment using pressure on the reflex zones of the foot. To release what is tense, recover calmer sleep and support the body's overall balance.
At the practice, Lausanne · OrTra TC, ASCA and RME certified therapist
The foot as a map of the body
Foot reflexology rests on a simple idea: the sole of the foot mirrors the whole body. Every region, every organ has a corresponding area, called a reflex zone.
By applying precise pressure to these zones with the thumbs and fingers, I seek to release accumulated tension and stimulate the body's natural self-regulation. The treatment acts first on the nervous system: the body shifts from 'alert' mode to 'rest' mode.
It is neither a classic foot massage nor a medical treatment. It is a complementary form of support which, like all the practice's treatments, is part of a whole-person approach. Pressure is adapted to each person: some zones may be sensitive; these sensitivities guide the work and fade over the sessions.
What the foot tells us
A simplified representation: each zone of the foot is connected to a region of the body.
- The toesHead, sinuses, jaws: helpful for facial tension, headaches or a blocked nose.
- The forefootChest, shoulders, breathing: an area I work on when the breath is short or the shoulders locked.
- The archSolar plexus and digestion: the most telling zone when the stomach is knotted or sluggish.
- The heelPelvis and pelvic area: often dense in people who stand or sit all day.
- The inner edgeThe spine, from the neck to the lower back, followed centimetre by centimetre.
- The outer edgeHips, knees, shoulders: the joints that carry and compensate.
What reflexology can support
- Stress, overwork, difficulty switching off
- Light or restless sleep
- Tension in the back, neck and shoulders
- Functional digestive discomfort
- Heavy legs, a feeling of general fatigue
- Periods of transition or convalescence
A treatment suited to frail individuals
Because it requires no effort and is given lying down or seated, reflexology is particularly suited to elderly people, people with reduced mobility, or those for whom a full massage would be too demanding.
It is also a gentle first step for anyone who has never received bodywork.
How a session unfolds
You remain clothed; only the feet and ankles are uncovered. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to settle in.
Conversation
A time to talk about what brings you in, how you are feeling and your medical history.
Settling in
Lying on the treatment table, or in a semi-seated position if that is more comfortable.
The treatment
Pressure and mobilisation across both feet, with more precise work on the zones that call for it.
Rest
A few minutes to let the body integrate. Drinking water after the session is recommended.
Fifteen years of practice with elderly people
Since 2010, I have worked as an independent therapist in the psycho-geriatric institutions of the Fondation SAPHIR, in the Nord vaudois region.
There I support elderly people losing their autonomy, including those living with neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's, using foot reflexology and therapeutic touch.
This field experience, renewed every week for over fifteen years, has shaped an attentive, patient practice, adjusted to each person whatever their condition.
« Beyond the illness, the emotions are still there. Touch is sometimes the only language left, and it is enough. »
The Fondation SAPHIR is a medico-social institution recognised as being of public interest, active in geriatrics and psychiatry of advanced age in the Jura-Nord vaudois region. Discover the Fondation SAPHIR
Prices and reimbursement
The 30-minute session targets a specific issue. The 60-minute session allows both feet to be treated in depth, without rushing. Conversation, work on both feet and rest time included.
Reflexology — focused session
CHF 75.–
Ideal alongside another treatment or for a well-localised tension.
Book a sessionFollow-up
One session is enough for a moment of relaxation. For deeper work, a short series of closely spaced sessions is often suggested; the pace is decided together.
Diego Costier is ASCA and RME certified. Depending on your supplementary insurance, the session may be partially reimbursed. Please check with your insurer before the first session.
Precautions
Reflexology is a gentle treatment, but some situations call for postponing the session or discussing it first:
- Phlebitis, thrombosis or acute circulatory disorders
- Wound, infection or recent fracture of the foot
- Ongoing fever or infection
- First trimester of pregnancy
I am not a physician. Reflexology complements conventional medicine, it does not replace it. For any medical diagnosis or treatment, consult your doctor. If in doubt, I will tell you whether the treatment is appropriate for you.
